What is NT scan?
It is a detailed ultrasound scan done between 11 to 13 weeks after six days of confirmed pregnancy. It is also known as the Nuchal translucency scan or first-trimester aneuploidy screening scan.
Why is it done?
It is done mainly to screen any markers suggestive of genetic diseases in your baby. The chromosomal problems that are screened for are Down syndrome, Patau syndrome and Edwards syndrome. In addition to the markers for chromosomal diseases, a screening anatomical assessment of the baby’s head, brain, face, hands & legs, spine, heart, bladder, placenta, cervix etc. are also in accordance with the weeks of gestation and visibility.
Should i get it done?
All pregnant women are at risk of carrying a baby with genetic or structural defects.
It is preferable to get the scan done during a specific time of pregnancy as many of the major structural defects in your baby can be ruled out to a great extent by this time.
NT scans with us
To avoid inconvenience to the patient, we have charted an appointment system for all
pregnancy scans from the time of the NT scan. Kindly make sure to book your appointment in advance (at least 2 weeks before). Please stick to the timings as fixed by the reception to avoid confusion.
The bladder should be semi-filled for better scan visualisation, as the scan will be done abdominally.
It may take about 30 min to 1 hr for each scan. You may be asked to return for a review/repeat scan later if the baby’s position during the scan is not optimal.
Hence, it is preferred that you take half a day off from work on the day of the scan and carry some refreshments with you.
Post the scan, you will be required to give a sample for BT (double marker test). The report of the blood test will be available within 5-7 working days.
Consultations are done ideally after the blood reports are available. But in case of any issues, you are welcome to meet our consultant.
We would prefer that the date and time are not changed as we have put in much effort to make sure that all patients are accommodated and there is as little waiting time as possible.
We will confirm the appointment and timings a day prior, but in case you do not hear from us, please confirm the appointment on the previous day with our receptionist.
Fertility Services Offered
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
IVF is a fertility treatment that involves fertilizing eggs with sperm in a laboratory setting. It is commonly used for various infertility issues, such as blocked fallopian tubes, low sperm count, or unexplained infertility.
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
IUI is a procedure in which washed and concentrated sperm are directly placed into the uterus during the woman’s ovulation period. It is often recommended for couples with mild male factor infertility, cervical factor infertility, or unexplained infertility.
Fertility Preservation (Egg Freezing, Sperm Freezing, Embryo Freezing)
Fertility preservation allows individuals or couples to preserve their reproductive cells (eggs, sperm, or embryos) for future use. It is commonly chosen by those who want to delay childbearing due to personal or medical reasons.
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)
PGT is a specialized genetic testing procedure performed on embryos before they are transferred to the uterus during an IVF cycle. It helps identify genetic disorders or chromosomal abnormalities in embryos, allowing for the selection of healthy embryos for transfer.
Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy
These minimally invasive surgical procedures are used to diagnose and treat various reproductive conditions. Laparoscopy involves inserting a small camera through tiny incisions to examine the pelvic organs, while hysteroscopy involves inserting a thin tube with a camera through the cervix to visualize the inside of the uterus.
Ovulation Induction
Ovulation induction involves the use of medications to stimulate the ovaries to release eggs. It is commonly used in cases of hormonal imbalances or ovulation disorders to increase the chances of natural conception or enhance the success of assisted reproductive technologies.
