Non-invasive Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidies (niPGT-A)

niPGT-A stands for Noninvasive Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy. The relatively new niPGT-A is a non-invasive genetic test which analyzes the DNA of embryos to determine chromosomal status.

Unlike a traditional PGT-A test, which involves the biopsy of a few cells from the embryo, the niPGT-A is a fertility procedure that is a game-changer in fertility treatment. It involves assessing embryos for chromosomal abnormalities without the need for invasive procedures. This innovative technique has potential to enhance the selection of healthy embryos for implantation, increasing the chances of successful pregnancies.

Who is niPGT-A suitable for?

NIPGTA, available at Aspire Fertility Center, Bangalore, is a powerful tool for couples facing challenges with genetic abnormalities during their fertility journey. It is particularly suitable for:

  • Couples with a history of recurrent miscarriages or failed IVF cycles.
  • Individuals with advanced maternal age, where the risk of chromosomal abnormalities is higher.
  • To undergo niPGT-A, a standard IVF or ICSI cycle is usually followed. The key advantage of niPGT-A is its non-invasive nature, reducing the risk associated with traditional embryo biopsy methods. Additionally, this procedure enables the selection of embryos with the highest potential for a successful pregnancy, optimizing the chances of a healthy baby.
  • The procedure involves the testing of the spent culture media surrounding the embryo. This fluid contains genetic material shed by the embryo, providing valuable insights into its chromosomal composition. Advanced genetic analysis is then performed on this sample to identify any abnormalities.

Your dedicated fertility specialist will guide you through this process, ensuring that you are well-informed and prepared for the next steps.
What are the risks and other considerations?
While NIPGTA is a remarkable advancement, it’s important to be aware of potential risks and considerations. Just like any medical procedure, there are factors to consider:
False-positive or false-negative results: While NIPGTA is highly accurate, there can be instances of incorrect genetic information.
Limited genetic information: NIPGTA focuses on specific chromosomal abnormalities and may not cover all genetic disorders.
Emotional impact: The process of genetic testing can bring emotional challenges, and it’s important to have a strong support system.
